Pet service providers across Portugal were managing bookings by phone, losing revenue to no-shows, and running their businesses without the tools to grow. Petzai set out to change that, so we built a two-sided platform where pet owners find and book trusted local services, and providers manage everything in one place.

More than a marketplace.

Petzai wanted to build a marketplace for pet services, but our first contribution was to productively complicate that framing. Since plenty of marketplaces live or die on the balance between supply and demand within the same geography, there was an opportunity to build the go-to management software for groomers, pet hotels, and daycare providers, one where being listed in a marketplace is a benefit of using the platform, not the sole point of it.

Playfulness throughout.

The branding for Petzai leaned into warmth, affection and playfulness through rounded typography, earthy tones, and illustration rooted in real moments.

The platform's three surfaces share a single design system and codebase, and to further help Petzai extend this language independently, we developed an AI-assisted illustration system using hand-drawn references as a guide, putting consistent creative production within reach of a small team.

Technical bits.

Onboarding and booking.

The public marketplace renders statically for search performance, while the vendor back office runs as a single-page application. During onboarding, business information entered by the vendor populates their listing in real time, so providers get an immediate sense of how they appear to pet owners before going live. The booking form works the same way, validating choices as the user progresses so that conflicts never make it to submission.

Catering for three types of services.

Grooming, pet hotel, and daycare operate on entirely different logic: a time slot sized by breed and fur type, a multi-day stay with check-in and check-out nuances, and a recurring schedule checked across weeks at a time. Building one coherent system that handles all three, without reducing any of them to an approximation of the others is exactly the kind of problem Significa is built for.

Double payment flow.

We integrated Stripe Connect to handle two distinct payment flows: a vendor subscription to the platform, and direct booking payments between pet owners and service providers.

“If you are a dog walker, opening a grooming store or a pet hotel, this would be the software that you would use to manage the agenda, the invoicing, and all. You’d be present on a marketplace that you knew pet owners would find you under five to ten minutes of registration.”
