What is 1% for the Planet?

1% for the Planet is a global network with thousands of businesses and environmental organisations working together to support people and our planet. It is a nonprofit organisation founded by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, the owner of Blue Ribbon Flies. Its mission is to encourage businesses to donate 1% of their annual sales to environmental causes with a simple theory: because companies profit from the resources they take from the earth, they should protect those resources too. The initiative highlights the transformative power of businesses that prioritise the health of our planet.

Our commitment.

A certified member of 1% for the Planet, Significa contributed 1% of our gross annual revenue from 2023, between 1% for the Planet and Smart Shelter Foundation (S.S.F.).

We’ve partnered with Smart Shelter Foundation, which felt like a perfect match for Significa given our shared love for open-source knowledge and an insatiable desire to never compromise on quality, believing there can always be a better way to do things.

Smart Shelter Foundation promotes safe and sustainable building techniques for constructing schools and homes in developing countries, especially in regions with a high risk of natural disasters. Their projects and research focus on promoting natural, reusable and locally sourced techniques and materials, such as earth and stone, including earthquake-resistant building principles. These techniques are further developed and improved in collaboration with an international team of experts. They share their expertise with local communities to ensure that everyone has a safe home, no matter where they live. SSF organises free workshops for students around the world with the aim of raising awareness of safe and environmentally friendly solutions that improve construction in disaster-prone areas and address global environmental issues.

We look forward to being able to work with S.S.F. on their goals for 2024. Supporting them through brand, product, and further monetary donations ensures they can focus on sharing critical knowledge that can save thousands of lives in at-risk communities worldwide.
